mm okay I was going to write a boring essay on social identity in early renaissance England but I got bored.

RE: HUMAN NAMES: I myself prefer their country names because you never see them use the human names in canon, and well in England's case, there's a huge national identity crisis of WHO ARE WE REALLY. It's kind of hard to describe and it's more of a 'ivory tower of academia and political-... ia' thing than a 'any guy off the street' thing, but yeah. The English kind of have issues trying to find a national identity. I just see as the personal names as a secondary thing, sort of a 'if you're not comfortable with England, call me Arthur' sort of thing. Being #1 tsundere, England kind of gets flustered when other countries use his personal name, but he doesn't mind so much when humans/citizens use it. I just see it as a "O-oi America don't you dare use that name without me giving express permission you loony twit" kind of thing :|b

And me personally? God I loved the fucked up 50s. Mccarthyism and all that looniness is what I eat for breakfast. England didn't have the huge paranoia thing as America and eeeehhhh okay I'm going off topic. But I read a nerdy book on Britain in the Cold War and I feel exceptionally awesomely dorky about it.

RE: UNIONS: I have nothing important to say, but it is my headcanon that England keeps his brothers in his attic like Mr. Rochester. Now that Scotland has his own parliament he probably lives in his own house up in Edinburgh, but that's like... super recent. So I always imagine his brothers living with him in his house, with them coming down to breakfast every morning to greet each other calmly with "I hate you". England doesn't even look up from his paper.

AND MY TWO CENTS ON STUDY ABROAD. CHOOSE COPENHAGEN IS IT SUCH AN AWESOME PLACE. LONDON IS GREAT, BUT IT'S NOT AS IMMERSIVE AND UNIQUE AS LIVING IN A CITY THAT SPEAKS AN DIFFERENT LANGUAGE. That, and you can get to Belgium and Amsterdam pretty darn easily.
