Discedo's Spring Watanagashi 2010
Jun. 10th, 2010 03:16 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
What: Spring Watanagashi (Cotton Drifting) Festival
When: June 19th, late afternoon to evening
Where: Bonito Drive, then to the nearby lake to the west for cotton drifting.
After talking with Yuuko-mun, we've decided to merge the Spring Festival and the Watanagashi together! As of now, this HUGE organization post only contains information on Rika's Watanagashi plans. I will be editing this and adding more information as more volunteers come in.
This obviously won't be like your traditional Japanese festival! Especially since this is taking place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I'm also making sure their preparations and the things they find make sense for this kind of setting. |D
About the "Watanagashi" ("cotton drifting") -
The Cotton Drifting Festival is a festival that only exists in the Higurashi series, celebrated in the Hinamizawa Village. The purpose of it is to pay respect to the futons (or... the cotton, which absorbs the evil energy during the winter) and give thanks to the Shrine God, Oyashiro.
Also, the wata in watanagashi can not only mean "cotton", but it also means entrails. For characters who know Japanese and actually want to bother looking deep into the name of it, feel free to point that out. The festival originally involved dissecting humans and ripping out their intestines until the early Showa era.
Oyashiro is Hanyuu, and the reincarnation (and shrine maiden/priestess) of that God is Rika. No one in Discedo knows this except for themselves.
About the "Hanami" ("flower viewing") - This is the Spring part of the festival. It's an actual traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers. Hanami mostly involves having an outdoor party beneath the cherry blossom trees during the daytime or at night.
( Discedo's Spring Cotton Drifting Festival (tl;dr Organization Post) )
This is an event that's taking place in a day, so it might be a little difficult... but backtagging is definitely welcome. Also, you do not need to know Hanyuu, Rika, and Yuuko to be able to participate. Everyone is invited! While we do need volunteers, we also need people who want to go to the festival and have fun. :3
