BARN STUFF!

I've been meaning to make this post for ages, and, hey, now seems like a good enough time! There are a lot of new people here, so a general reminder is fun, and so is trying to figure out what's even in the barn. But first, some Discedo history for the class!

Back in the fall of '08, when Sorata first arrived in the city, food was a lot harder to find. Half jokingly, he asked the scientists for some livestock to help feed everyone: to everyone's surprise, they agreed. At first he kept the cow and chicken in the graveyard; eventually characters banded together and converted one of the warehouses (south of the bar in this map) into a barn for them and any other animals. People started keeping other animals there—horses, chocobos, and ghost cows—and then America ate them all during last winter's famine. Oops. The scientists usually provide feed for everything there but the chickens (since they eat anything); water has to be brought in from elsewhere.

Anyway, the barn still exists, as with some animals; it is currently Discedo's only source of milk/eggs/butter/etc. Sorata takes care of it with a devotion that comes out of being bored/having done pretty much nothing else on and off for two years; other people help/have helped in the past. It's an open location; anyone can post using it/the animals there/take goods/etc. Sorata tends to drop off the milk at the high school or bar (they have electricity/fridges), but everything there is open for any character to use.

So, anyway! Here's a list, as much as I can remember, of what is in the barn right now.

COWS:

TWO. Takoyaki, who has somehow survived from October 2008 through now (but no longer gives milk), and a newer cow that is yet nameless because I am pretty lazy. New cow provides milk; cows provide 6 gallons of milk a day.

CHICKENS:

TWO adult chickens, one male and one female, and... let's say five-six chicks. I believe Anemone also has a chick, who is probably about grown up by now and could possibly provide more eggs? Chickens lay one egg a day.

HORSES:

NONE. They all got eaten. :|

CHOCOBOS:

I HAVE NO IDEA. I think there were one or two nameless chocobos hanging around? Plus I know at least Norway and Marta have Chocobos of their own? I'm not sure how often they lay eggs, or genders...

OTHER ANIMALS:

None at this time. However, the scientists sometimes feel generous and answer requests, so...

If your character has an animal there (or wants an animal there), please comment! Also, if you wanna help poor Sorata with this stuff, that'd be super cool. ;w;! A- and seriously, guys, correct me, I have no idea what I missed (but I suspect it's "a lot.")

Marta's chocobo is male and named Simurgh! \o/ Granted she doesn't know that it's male. Yet. Anyways, since Latimir is apparently capable of housing chocobos, she's relocated hers to there. Granted, whenever that new apartment is done Marta will probably move there and then... take Simurgh back to the barn. IDK was this helpful probably not.

Also, she totally wants to help Sorta. 8Db

XD I think the apartments can house them in the sense of "well, it's indoors," but there aren't any, like, stables built in to anything. XD o/ AND SHE SHOULD HELP, YES.

OH well. Idk then. Maybe she'll move him back to the barn again... It depends on how it actually works at Latimir haha. But yeaaah, working at a farm. \o/ For the record Marta has never done anything barn related. Ever. But it's not cooking, so she should be fine. 8)

And yes, we kinda threw some hay down and moved them in when it was winter outside and they were freezing to death. ... But I really need to discuss with Naja's player to figure out any details. XD; We sorta handwaved it.

Yeah, when we had the giant blizzard of doom, several of the chocobos died and there were about five of them left. They moved them into Latimir somewhere. There was much handwaving and bawwing.

Anemone leaves Gumdrop (her mad cow) around the bar often. Idk/(you can make up) if it gives milk or anything but... yeah.

Um, I think we used to say the mad cows gave milk, so... hnnn. But they're also "ghosts..."



Let's just say it gives a smaller amount of milk than normal cows. XD;;

no idea if it matters, but germany and italy have a chocobo also, and if germany finds out about the barn, he will make every attept to give it to you. so. dont ask me the name, but i hear rumors it was fluffy.... sob

Minato has been taking care of some chocobos. I think there's about five of them? He took over when Chocobo had some of his family freezing to death, so they moved them into Latimir. And it's a testament to how much Naja likes Minato in that she didn't kill him for that. 8D

Minato wouldn't mind moving them back out into a barn where they'd have more room, but he'd be worried about them having enough heat. ... then again, Minato can always rope ^ THIS GUY into making some sort of heat source for them. Mwuahaha.

The barn is insulated and everything - I don't remember if there's a heater, but animals also generate their own heat etc. The cows and chickens have never been in danger of freezing to death, only of... y'know, starving/being eaten.

Oooo. Minato might do that, then. :| He'd just set a mark so that he could teleport over and help with the chocobos. I think the chocobos were originally moved to prevent being eaten? IDK. I'd have to ask Eiyoko the details. XD;

So I suppose that Minato will just have to somehow come into contact with your boy so we can work things out ICly? 8D

This kid would probably be willing to come and help out with animal care once he finds out about them. He lived on a small farm in rural England.. and canonically helped raise chickens and rabbits. And helped out on a sheep farm for a while too.

Nanako knows nothing about tending animals other than...petting them (8Db), but once she gets to know Sorata again, she'll happily help out! She's a pretty tough little girl and has a strong stomach, so the smell shouldn't bother her too bad~

If she can just play with the chicks and name the a few animals, she's golden.

....you kind of have made me fall in love with the idea of Gaga trading a day of farmwork for a fresh egg, taking it home with the intent of cooking it, and deciding to be frugal and incubate it instead.

Whether or not he'd ultimately end up bringing the resulting hen back to the barn because it won't stop destroying everything he owns remains to be seen, I guess :V;;

th--that was from Episode 18 XD The stewards had been shrunk down and sent inside of the robotic steward to see what made him malfunction. And the angry yellow thingies were living butterfly wing scales (I don't even know...) that had gotten inside and were suspected of making him malfunction...and kept kidnapping the little fairy steward gaga was crushing on.

(the scales ended up being innocent and were just trying to bring the fairy up to the brain area because she'd damaged it when she'd fallen in with them....so there was this big "YAY VICTOLY" scene at the end where the scales and stewards all worked together to reconstruct the robot's brain.

... Come to think of it this guy, if he ever ran across the barn would probably start hanging out there a little whenever people annoy him too much. I mean animals are awesome ok (and when you get called a dog a lot AND TURN INTO ONE SOMETIMES YOU START TO SYMPATHIZE REALLY...).

Which is utterly unhelpful for barn organization at this time but I figure it's good for possible Sorata CR-building idek. *A*b
